AFRICANGLOBE – New figures released at the weekend by STR Global, hospitality information specialist, reveals many hotels are under construction in Africa and the Middle East, with 113 set to be opened in 2013 alone in the regions.
STR Global disclosed 11 hotels with 1,683 rooms were opened in the first four months of the year, adding an additional 34,931 rooms are set to be opened in the rest of the year.
According to the report, the Middle East/Africa hotel growth pipeline for March consists of 483 hotels totaling 118,713 rooms.
Next year, one hundred and forty one hotels are expected to open their doors with 30,924 rooms.
“The most rooms are expected to open in the Upper Upscale segment (11,269 rooms in 38 hotels), followed by the Luxury segment (6,186 rooms in 28 hotels) and the Upscale segment (5,909 rooms in 30 hotels),” Arabian Business reported at the weekend.
The website reported that the total active pipeline data includes projects in the In Construction, Final Planning and Planning stages but does not include projects in the Pre-Planning stage.
