Awkward Black Girl Issa Rae Secures HBO Pilot Deal For Her New Show, Insecure

AFRICANGLOBE – We got just a … little … bit … closer to Issa Rae’s becoming a reality on our premium cable when we learned that HBO has officially ordered a pilot of her new show, Insecure.

Rae, the woman behind the hit YouTube series The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl, co-created Insecure along with The Nightly Show’s Larry Wilmore.

According to Deadline, the new show will tread familiar waters for Rae, chronicling “the awkward experiences and racy tribulations of a modern-day African-American woman.”

We’ve been waiting for a minute for Rae’s turn at crafting her HBO pilot—the project was originally set in motion around 2013. (It’s only 2015 now. No big.) Fortunately, she’s kept herself busy, producing more and more shows for her YouTube channel.

But if you’re waiting to find out if HBO will order a full season of Rae’s Insecure, you’ll have to keep waiting. Getting a show on the air—let alone one that stars anyone other than an ex-Seinfeld cast member—is a notoriously slow and fickle process. But in the meantime, you can tide yourself over with Rae’s new book, The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl, an essay collection that hits bookstore shelves Feb. 10.
