AFRICANGLOBE – Jurors saw graphic photos of Trayvon Martin’s body in court Tuesday afternoon as a police sergeant described responding to the scene of his shooting last year in a Sanford, Fla., gated community.

Sanford police Sgt. Anthony Raimondo described seeing the body of Trayvon Martin face down in the grass after the unarmed teen was shot in the chest by former neighborhood watch vigilante George Zimmerman, who is standing trial in his murder.

Zimmerman claims he shot in self-defense after the teen attacked him.

Raimondo said he attempted to test Martin’s pulse.

He didn’t detect one.

“I breathed for Mr. Martin,” Raimondo said, responding to questions from prosecutor John Guy. “I tried to, sir.”

Raimondo said he heard “bubbling sounds” coming from Trayvon Martin.

“It means that either air was getting into or escaping from the chest in a manner it was not supposed to, sir,” Raimondo said. He said he called out to the crowd that had gathered nearby to ask for Saran wrap and Vaseline in order to attempt to seal the chest wound.

Later, Raimondo described covering Trayvon Martin’s body with a yellow medical blanket. The jury saw dramatic photos of Trayvon Martin’s body on the grass, the bullet wound in Trayvon Martin’s chest, and the body covered with the bright blanket.

Trayvon Martin’s father Tracy left the courtroom as attorneys displayed the photos, the Orlando Sentinel reports.

Smith showed the jury a diagram of the crime scene and pieces of evidence recovered from the scene including the package of Skittles candy and the Arizona drink Trayvon Martin had been carrying when he was shot. The jury also saw George Zimmerman’s clothing from the night of the shooting and photos of  Zimmerman bleeding after the altercation.

Testimony continued Tuesday afternoon after short recess.
