In a bid to expand the availability of its most advanced smartphone, Apple announced Wednesday that it will launch the iPhone 4S in China and 21 other countries on Jan. 13.
Starting Friday, the black and white iPhone 4S units will be available in Antigua and Barbuda, Anguilla, Bolivia, Botswana, British Virgin Islands, Cameroon, Cayman Islands, Central African Republic, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador and Grenada.
In addition, it will be launched in Guam, Guina Conakry, Ivory Coast, Jamaica, Kenya, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritius, Niger, Senegal, St. Vincent and The Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, Uganda, and Turks and Caicos.
“Customer response to our products in China has been off the charts,” said Apple CEO Tim Cook.
“With the launch in China next week, iPhone 4S will be available in over 90 countries making this our fastest iPhone rollout ever,” he added.
The expected price of the new phones in all the 22 new countries will be the same. The 16GB model will cost $ 199, the 32GB model will carry a price tag of $ 299 and the 64GB model will cost $ 399.
Moreover, Apple will slash the prices of its iPhone 4 to $ 99 and iPhone 3GS for free when signed up for a two-year contract with a participating carrier.
The iPhone 4S will be available through the Apple Online Store, Apple’s retail stores and select Apple Authorized Resellers.

China: Fastest growing market
China is the key market for Apple products. It received its first Apple store in 2008 and now has 6 stores including outlets in Hong Kong and Shanghai.
The country was the world’s biggest consumer of smartphones in 2011.
Cook said during Apple’s third quarter conference call with investors, “The China progress has been amazing.
“If you look at our Greater China revenue, it represented just 2 percent of Apple in our fiscal year ’09. And in the fiscal year we just ended, it accounted for 12 percent, and if you look at the quarter that we just ended, it accounted for 16 percent. So it’s our fastest growing major region by far.”
Improved version of iPhone 4
The iPhone 4S is an improved version of the existing iPhone 4. It features the same external design but Apple has upgraded the hardware to improve performance.
The new device supports an A5 chip that promises twice the speed and makes graphics seven times faster than the old processor.
It has a super charged 8-megapixel camera, 1080p video recording, an improved optics system, and a longer battery life.
In addition, the Apple handset is a dual-band world phone, meaning both major worldwide phone standards, CDMA and GSM are accessible.
In addition, it has Siri, a new intelligent voice-control system. Unfortunately, the Chinese iPhone 4S units will not have a working version of Siri.
