AFRICANGLOBE – Sylvia Johnson, who is reportedly the cousin of South Carolina shooting victim Clementa Pinckney, told NBC that a survivor of the massacre said the terrorist “reloaded five times.” The woman also said that the shooter, who sat amongst churchgoers for an hour of Bible study before he began shooting, stated, “I have to do it. You rape our women and you’re taking over our country. And you have to go.”

This comes as white supremacist commentators pushback on the idea that the shooting was racially motivated. Rudy Giuliani went on Fox News’ Fox and Friends this morning to declare that “we don’t know the motivation” of the suspect. Fox and Friends Steve Doocy seemed to suggest the shooting was part of a war on Christians, stating, “Extraordinarily, they called it a ‘hate crime,’ and some look at it as, ‘Well, because it was a white guy and a Black church,’ but you made a great point earlier about the hostility towards Christians. And it was a church. So maybe that’s what they were talking about. They haven’t explained it to us.”

South Carolina Police Chief Greg Mullen has said the case is being treated as a hate crime. The Department of Justice Civil Rights Division, U.S. Attorney’s Office and the FBI have announced plans this morning to open a “hate crime investigation” into the killings. The suspect, now identified as Dylann Roof, has been captured.
