Anti-African Violence: Lawmaker Wants Nigerians Evacuated From South Africa

AFRICANGLOBE – Chairperson of Nigeria’s House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs, Nnenna Elendu-Ukeje has called for the evacuation of Nigerians within 24 hours from South Africa owing to ongoing attacks on non-indigenes.

Ukeje made the appeal in a phone interview on Thursday in Ibadan. She said that the call was necessary because of increasing attacks on Nigerians and non-Nigerians alike in South Africa.

“The Federal Government of Nigeria should rise up to the occasion by having contingency plans to evacuate Nigerians within 24 hours to avoid us losing our citizens to these attacks.

“It is expedient to think of where all Nigerians can gather within 24 hours for safety either in our embassy or mission for the safety of our citizens,’’ she said.

She suggested that a concrete arrangement with some airlines should be made to evacuate Nigerians back home urging the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to equally mobilise to take care of the returnees.

Ukeje noted with concern that that the xenophobia was degenerating to Afrophobia as many Black Africans, including Nigerians, were being attacked from Johannesburg to Durban.

She advised the Nigerian government against delay till some of her citizens are killed in the latest attacks before implementing its citizen diplomacy policy.

“Unfortunately, there is no serious condemnation from South Africa government on this attacks, hence the need for Nigerian government to be proactive and rescue her citizens as soon as possible,’’ she said.

She expressed surprise that South Africa that housed African Parliament and other institutions of Africa in the continent could descend so low to the extent of her nationals attacking other Africans living in that country.

Ukeje said her committee was in close contact with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to see what could be done to protect Nigerians in South Africa, while the House is to engage relevant stakeholders on the matter.

Also Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Diaspora, Abike Dabiri-Erewa in a phone interview said that a motion on the issue would be tabled during the plenary session of the House.

Dabiri-Erewa condemned the attacks on Nigerians living in South Africa, saying it was disgusting for South Africans to be treating Nigerians like that despite the Nigeria’s role during the apartheid struggle.

  4. Probably some street kids that stole a few things and got lynched by the mob. These imbeciles are retarded to the lowest point. Street kids must be taken care by social services not sentenced to death. How many billions are stolen by African elite? This is like jungle justice where donkeys got sentenced to death because of grazing in some areas when no one touched the lions for eating zebras, giraffes..

  5. Am Not the least surprised at this tendency of some Africans to inflict hatred on thier own when the specie that hates, detest, and looks at us by our skin, lives in tranquil citadels close by.
There’s a grand way we’ve lost it that does not addup. It’s sad that we don’t have the needed priorities in place let alone prioritising them. It’s crucial that the next time we talk about some Caucasian hating on us, we pause and check what we are personally capable of. Nonetheless, xenophobia is truly a pure dislike for other nationals – and shouldn’t be necessarily racial. But l think the whites in South Africa have robbed that land bare and should taste a bit of what is being continually visited on our own pigmentation from time to time.
Our various governments, instead of talking evacuation at the least news, should run our economies in such a way that it accommodates their own citizens and keep them home.

Dear African Brothers and Sisters, I am SORRY..SO SORRY!
I have travelled to your countries and all I have ever received IS nothing but unconditional love, care and kindness. You’ve helped me cross some of the most congested African borders just to ensure my safety, you’ve shared meals with a stranger, treated me like your own daughter/friend/sister, sheltered & taught me the language of humanity that is Ubuntu. Today I find myself and many others immersed in shame due to what is being senselessly done to you by some evil-spirited South “Africans”!
I advocate for Peace and a United Africa!
    In Solidarity.

  7. Africa is a continent…. not a country…. People have been promoting propaganda to keep the African tribes divided and fighting against each other. This has been going on for centuries

  8. Young Nelson Mandela with his mentor who gave him a military training in ethiopia. different african countries helped south SA to over throw Aparthid, they are paying it back like this?????

  9. ”AS LONG ‘AS ”YOU ”MY BROTHERS & SISTERS”BEHAVE ”AS THE ”POWERS AT HAND”WANT YOU TO REACT TO THEIR PLAN”ALTHOUGH”THEY ”WONT”’YOU ARE ”MAKING IT EASIER TO RAPE & CONTROL ”OUR ”MOTHER”![AFRICA”].WE ARE DIFFERENT TO LEARN FROM ”ONE ANOTHER”!IT SAYS NOTHING OF US ”BEING SEPARATE WHILE WE DO ”LEARN FROM”ONE ANOTHER!QUIT”FALLING FOR THE ”DECEPTION!!!

  10. Simply ridiculous. Obviously this is being ochrestrated and amplified to lessen the growing descent against the real economic issues which are in fact the direct result of Europeans controlling / owning the lion’s share of the wealth and lands of South Africa while the majority Africans scramble for the little that is left for their subsistence. There is no such thing as a lazy African but there are many Africans who have fallen for well planned propaganda campaigns to have us at each others throats while neglecting the real source of our collective grievances.

  11. If That’s The Case Mr.Zina!
    CPG-My Question Is ,
R All 50 Million SouthAfricans Attacking The Nigerian Foreigners ?

R Were The Nigerian Business Owners Using Their Businesses Ta Enhance The Economy N Help Provide Jobs N Training For The People Of Those Communities In South Africa!!!
    Thank U !
    Please Respond?

  12. ALL OF US EVERY WHERE! WE ARE ONE PEOPLE WE HAVE TO SEE THAT WE ARE ONE PEOPLE IF YOUR SKIN IS BLACK YOU ARE ONE!
LOOK AT WHAT THEY ARE DOING TO YOU PLEASE WAKE UP!!!!

  13. When Black people are coming together against white supremacy, someone pays off “King” Zwelithini to incite violence against fellow Blacks. The same tricks as Colonization of divide and conquer are being used here. I don’t believe in coincidences. A little shares here, a little bank transfer and a little phone call. Black on Black violence was strategy used in colonization, slavery and apartheid period. Wasn’t Zwelithini having some financial issues with his huge family? And he can also show the South African government just how much power he has.

  14. It would not be possible to evacuate all the Nigerian citizens from our country in 24hrs, if she thinks that’s possible then clearly she’s clueless about the number of her fellow citizens in the country….besides it is premature to be making such statements. SA has a population of over 50mil people, and between 4-6mil foreign citizens, these attacks against foreign nationals are carried out by a mere handful of SA citizens. People run businesses in this country, the majority of Nigerian citizens in the country run business, she can’t expect them to up and leave just like that.

The majority of SA people are opposed to xenophobia or Afrophobia…they are vocal about it and lending a helping hand where possible. SA has a dark past, it is a very violent country, we’ve got one of the highest levels of inequality in the world. Our poor people are frustrated by the slow pace of transformation, they are almost hopeless, they vent at anybody who crosses their path. The number of attacks on foreign nationals seem to correspond with the number of violent protests we see in the country, these have skyrocketed in the past decade. It is really sad that our people have resorted to attacking their fellow Africans in their wave of frustrations, but the country is not up in flames yet…and it unlikely to
