AFRICANGLOBE – Leader of South Africa’s Economic Freedom Fighters Julius Malema on Tuesday welcomed the disbanding of the Parliament ad hoc committee tasked with investigating the Nkandla corruption saga.

“I want to thank the ANC councillors for shifting the task to the next government because they are referring to us. We will be handling the report.”

Malema was addressing Economic Freedom Fighters’ supporters outside the SABC offices in Johannesburg. Malema and a crowd of thousands marched on the public broadcaster’s head office over its refusal to air an EFF television election advert.

“I will be there deciding (President Jacob) Zuma’s fate,” he said.

The Nkandla matter would not be swept under the carpet or allowed to die down until Zuma was behind bars for his involvement, Malema said to applause and cheers.

“We will deal with the matter accordingly when we get to Parliament.”

A Parliamentary ad hoc committee set up to probe the Nkandla saga was dissolved on Monday through a majority vote by the African National Congress.

It was to have focused on Zuma’s response to the Public Protector’s finding that he unduly benefited from a R246 million security upgrade to his private Nkandla home in KwaZulu-Natal.

Ruling party MPs said there was not enough time before Parliament dissolved at midnight on May 6 for the committee to do justice to the task at hand.
