AFRICANGLOBE – The newly elected Chair of the African Union, Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe, said it is not his business what the West thinks of his election to his new role. The President said it is up to them to do what they chose to do.
“For more than ten year I and my country have been under sanctions. If they want them to continue, it is up to them. But we say sanctions are wrong,” Mugabe said.
Mugabe made the remarks in reply to a question if his election as an AU Chair would impact the organization’s relation with the West.
“My business is the decisions that we have made here are implemented. I will only concentrate on uplifting the standard of living of Africans,” Mugabe said.
He added that now it seems Europe seems it is interested to do business with Zimbabwe, citing a group of French businesspeople whom he met in Harare.
