South Africa: Zuma Grilled During Question And Answer Session
Zuma has been accused of wasting public finances on his mansion

AFRICANGLOBE – President, Jacob Zuma says he has already answered the “pay back the money” question in terms of Nkandla.

Zuma was responding to a written question by EFF leader Julius Malema in South Africa’s National Assembly on Thursday.

“The matter relating to the security upgrades in Nkandla is being discussed by Parliament through the ad hoc committee on the police minister’s report,” said Zuma.

He said he had responded to the matter before and had submitted a report to Speaker Baleka Mbete in August last year.

“I believe the question is premature as matters have not yet been concluded by this House. I will respond further once all processes have been concluded,” said Zuma.

Malema then rose and said it was a “huge embarrassment” that Zuma was unable to answer questions, including that about Mineral Resources Minister Ngoako Ramatlhodi’s revoking of Optimum Coal’s mining licence on Tuesday.

Malema said the spending on the so-called security upgrades at Zuma’s Nkandla homestead was a “huge problem”.

He dismissed Police Minister Nkosinathi Nhleko’s report on the matter.

Nhleko’s report states that Zuma does not have to pay back the money.

“Don’t tell me about the video games of Nhleko,” said Malema.

“The only report which is legitimate and legal is Advocate Thuli Madonsela’s report and not these illegal activities, which have been happening here. When are you paying back the money? Because that is what the public protector said you must do.”

Zuma insisted he had answered the question.
