AFRICANGLOBE – A new video of a Nigerian ambushed by the officers of the South African Police has just surfaced and has gotten folks talking about the rate of police brutality in the southern African country.
According to SDK, the Nigerian national was ambushed in Pretoria in an attack led by Batista, a police officer of the Sunnyside Police Station in the capital, and he had been linked to police officers involved in criminal activities.
Sources revealed that the officers of the Sunnyside Police Station, and especially Batista himself, have been carrying out violent attacks on Nigerians in the capital. They allegedly barge into houses and rob Nigerians. There are cases of Nigerian nationals robbed outside the banks and on the streets.
Recall that in July, officers of the Pretoria Central police were accused of unleashing a ‘reign of terror’ on foreigners – including Nigerians. And According to Times Live, these officers have been carrying out “string of assaults, robberies, thefts and kidnappings for ransom.“ Victims submitted sworn statements to the country’s police watchdog called the ‘Independent Police Investigative Directorate’ to investigate the cases.
Following the recent arrest captured on video, Nigerians in South Africa have cried to the Consulate to speak up for them.
