Eccentric billionaire real estate mogul and infamous crackpot Donald Trump has urged American citizens to “march on ”Washington”and overthrow re-elected President Barack Obama.
The reality TV host’s slide into a national joke is pretty much complete after Tuesday night’s new low of taking to Twitter to describe President Obama’s win over Republican challenger Mitt Romney as a “sham” and call the Electoral College a “disaster for a democracy.”
“The Donald” struck a much more combative tone to Romney’s gracious concession speech as he told followers:
“We can’t let this happen,” he tweeted. “We should march on Washington and stop this travesty. Our nation is totally divided!”
At the time of some of Trump’s tweets, the election was not quite over. Indeed, popular vote totals at the time revealed Obama was actually trailing Romney, although the Electoral College figures all but confirmed that Obama’s victory was close to becoming official.
Trump was one of the original leaders of the “birther” movement that questioned whether the president was born in the U.S. and therefore eligible to be president. He has been a highly vocal critic of Obama throughout the election campaign.
The White House released the president’s birth certificate last year following repeated calls for as much, but not even that satisfied Trump. He recently offered to donate $5 million to charity if Obama released his passport application and college transcripts by 5 p.m. on October 30.
That second request was ignored.
“Barack Obama is the least transparent president in the history of this country,” Trump said in widely mocked October video shot from his New York office and uploaded to YouTube. “I’m very honored to have gotten him to release his long-form birth certificate or whatever it may be.”
President Obama remained unfazed. On “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno,” Obama joked to Leno that the bad blood between him and the “Celebrity Apprentice” star “dates back to when we were growing up together in Kenya.”
The president, however, saved his best zinger for Trump for Election Day.
