AFRICANGLOBE – Milwaukee Sheriff David Clarke has been busy on Donald Trump’s campaign trail and making appearances on TV, when he probably should have been paying attention to what’s going on in the jail he’s in charge of.
According to Milwaukee County coroners, inmate Terrill Thomas’ death has been categorized as a homicide. Autopsy reports stated that Thomas died of “profound dehydration”, WITI-TV reported.
Inmates at the Milwaukee County jail said that correction officers shut off the water in Thomas’ cell on April 18, and he died 6 days later. The inmates stated that they tried to warn the officers that Thomas was sick, but they were ignored.
Thomas was in jail because he shot a man at a local casino on April 15. Thomas . A judge ordered a psychiatric evaluation that Thomas was still waiting on when he died nine days later.
According to the Thomas family attorney, Erik Heipt, Thomas was waiting on a pschy evaluation and died before receiving one.
“It’s extremely concerning and seems to confirm some of the information that we had uncovered in the course of our investigation,” Heipt said. “In a situation like that, you would hope that the individual would be given a swift mental health evaluation and placed in an appropriate facility.”
During his tenure, Sheriff Clarke has had 10 inmates die between 2008 and 2012, according to a Journal Sentinel investigation.
