The Obama campaign has its first ad of the 2012 cycle targeting the Black community, a radio spot designed to increase turnout among a voter block that overwhelmingly backed President Obama in the 2008 election.
In the ad, which does not mention presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, a narrator says, “Four years ago we made history, now it’s time to move forward and finish what we started.”
“We have to show the president we have his back,” the narrator adds. Later, as a chorus sings “we’ve got your back,” listeners are encouraged to register to vote.
The spot includes a clip from one of President Obama’s speeches, in which he says: “I refuse to pay for another millionaire’s tax cut by kicking children off of head start programs or asking students to pay more for college.”
A spokesperson for Obama for America said the ad will air nationally, but would not reveal how much is being spent to run it or how long it will run. One African-American targeted website reports that the ad will air during the nationally syndicated “Tom Joyner Morning Show” and the “Steve Harvey Show.”
The announcement comes on the same day a pro-Obama campaign group, Priorities USA, releases an advertisement to air in Latino communities.
