AFRICANGLOBE – Jury selection begins today for Michael David Dunn, the 47-year-old man who shot unarmed 17-year-old Jordan Davis dead at a gas station in Jacksonville, Fla., in Novermber of 2012, The Florida Times-Union reports.

In his first trial, Dunn was convicted of three counts of attempted second-degree murder for firing into the SUV where three of Davis’ friends were sitting at the time of the shooting. He faces at least 60 years for those charges. Jurors, however, were deadlocked on Davis’ murder charge.

He faces life in prison, if convicted of Davis’ murder this go-around.

Michael Dunn was in town for a wedding when he pulled into a gas station where he encountered Jordan Davis and his friends. After getting into a dispute, Dunn fired his weapon into Jordan Davis’ Dodge Durango sport-utility vehicle, killing Jordan Davis. He claims he was threatened and saw a gun but no gun was ever located in the vehicle.

Dunn’s lawyers have argued that the trial be moved out of Jacksonville because it would be impossible to find an impartial jury, due to pre-trial publicity. Prosecutors want to keep the trial in Jacksonville. Moving a trial out of Jacksonville is extremely rare, though one case was moved 15 years ago.

Jury section could take between 3 and 5 days, according to WOKV‘s legal analyst Mark Rubin
