AFRICANGLOBE – A video released by a local Black Lives Matter chapter has gone viral of three Washington DC Metro Transit Police arresting and kicking to the ground a Black teenage girl because she had a bag of potato chips and a lollipop.
The video begins with the girl already in handcuffs and surrounded by three officers. The girl refuses to sit down when directed, and the officer sweeps his leg under hers, knocking her to the ground.
Onlookers can be heard saying “Oh my God!” in shock, and at least one of them start to argue with the officers, saying “You could have told her to put it away, or [taken] the lollipop . . . that is crazy. It’s a little girl!”
Metro bans their customers from bringing food or drink onto the trains. When the girl did not comply with orders to throw her food away, she was immediately placed in handcuffs. Officers ultimately decided not to pursue charges.
