AFRICANGLOBE - Let us not forget that when the Bush administration decided to make an example of President Mugabe by imposing crippling economic sanctions, John Lewis did not hesitate to vote in favour of this white supremacist and isolationist measure. Just because John Lewis skipped an inauguration does not mean he will not fall in line when President Trump calls for all hands on deck when it's time for US imperialism to wreak havoc on a nation that refuses to succumb or capitulate.
AFRICANGLOBE - Hillary Clinton will not be our first woman president, a symbolic blow made more painful by the fact that she lost to a raging misogynist and sexual predator. Donald Trump is now set to preside over a unified Republican government. This will almost certainly be disastrous for women, but according to exit polls, 53 percent of white women voted for him anyway.
AFRICANGLOBE - To the White feminist women for Trump, I’m so done with y’all. I’ve never felt so betrayed, horrified and disappointed by a group of people in my life. Today, I feel like you slit my soul’s throat with your knife of privileged indifference. Perhaps I’ve been living under a rock for the last few years, or perhaps I’ve been operating under the guise of misplaced faith in you. But here I am, days after, and I want to scream at this pain and betrayal I’m feeling. Like so many feminists in this election and so many more before it, the choice defaulted to Whiteness, above all else. Whiteness at any cost.
AFRICANGLOBE - It was late Tuesday night, into the early morning, when fear set in. Trump takes Florida flashed across the screen. Florida. Florida? The battleground state had swung right. But it wasn’t until later, Pennsylvania, a state Obama won last election, delivered the final blow. Social media was ablaze with memes. The #Mood hashtag reflects feelings of voters in disbelief. We went into the election confident Hillary would make history as the first woman president.
AFRICANGLOBE - One might think Donald Trump's sexist and vulgar statements would sway female voters away from the candidate. But roughly 53% of white women voted for Trump on Tuesday. White women turned out for Trump far more than other minority women. Around 4% of Black women and 26% of Latina women voted for the Republican candidate.
AFRICANGLOBE - When you study the results and the politics of the just concluded U.S. Presidential Election there is this treasure trove of valuable information that if properly understood explains exactly why Hillary Clinton lost the election.
AFRICANGLOBE - Former Ku Klux Klan Grand Wizard, David Duke, has congratulated Donald Trump, describing his victory in the US presidential election as "one of the most exciting nights of my life." Duke, who unsuccessfully ran for Louisiana Senate, told his Twitter followers: “Make no mistake about it, our people have played a HUGE role in electing Trump!”
AFRICANGLOBE - I told you what would happen and you knew this but the political party and political candidates that you love were absolutely clueless! White nationalism won the election and in our case, the only way to deal with white nationalism is Black empowerment and Black nationalism! What we need is Pan Africanism! What we need is Black unity and Black leaders that have an international view and perspective.
AFRICANGLOBE - President Barack Obama urged Americans to make history on Tuesday by electing the Democrat Hillary Clinton to succeed him in the White House. "I ask you to do for Hillary what you did for me," Obama told a rally in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the first of three he is holding for Clinton on the eve of the vote.
AFRICANGLOBE - The level of irrationality, confusion and negative energy is the most astonishing signal emanating out of the US presidential election. It is a strong indication that, whatever the result, we should be prepared for an escalation in the already serious tensions dominating our world.
AFRICANGLOBE - Whatever the outcome of this year's election may be: Ushahidi - a tool sparked by crisis in Kenya - will help to keep elections fair in the United States. A group of tech-savvy Kenyans got together and developed the crowdsourcing software that let people report cases of violence and tracked them on a map. This provided a far more complete picture of the situation than any news outlet. Their technology has been used for all kinds of purposes - from earthquake response to journalism. And this year, it will help monitor the U.S. election.
AFRICANGLOBE - A protest by a neo-Nazi organization has taken place outside government buildings in the US state of Pennsylvania, which was met by a larger counter-rally. Dozens of members of the Nationalist Socialist Movement (NSM), an American neo-Nazi group, chanted slogans in support of white supremacy and against racial diversity in the US.
AFRICANGLOBE - It is a terrible feeling to sense a threat coming, and know that many are abetting it by promoting the man who propels it. It is worse when the threat reveals itself to be real, yet complacency remains, and you do not know whether this reaction is rooted in apathy or cowardice. A phenomenon is taking place all over the Western world, as demagogic white nationalists rise, elites falsely predict their loss or play down the ramifications of their win, and hate crimes explode once victory is achieved, as witnessed in post-Brexit UK. It was all predictable, but now there is no clear organized process to stop it.
AFRICANGLOBE - Secret recordings of a suspect talking about the Clinton Foundation fueled an internal battle between FBI agents who wanted to pursue the case and corruption prosecutors who viewed the statements as worthless hearsay, people familiar with the matter said. Agents, using informants and recordings from unrelated corruption investigations, thought they had found enough material to merit aggressively pursuing the investigation into the foundation that started in summer 2015 based on claims made in a book by a conservative author called “Clinton Cash: The Untold Story of How and Why Foreign Governments and Businesses Helped Make Bill and Hillary Rich,”
AFRICANGLOBE - Black turnout in early voting fell this year in some key states, compared to turnout four years ago. If Black turnout continues to decline this year, it could spell trouble for Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton, whose lead over Donald Trump has tightened after the FBI announced it would be investigating newly-uncovered e-mails related to Clinton's private server.
AFRICANGLOBE - Democratic party chair Donna Brazile is no longer at CNN, as WikiLeaks revealed that she sent debate questions to Hillary Clinton’s campaign at least twice. Confirming Brazile’s dismissal, CNN said it was “completely uncomfortable” with her conduct. Brazile’s role as a Democratic pundit at CNN was suspended in July, when she took on the role of interim chair for the Democratic National Committee following the scandal-ridden departure of Debbie Wasserman-Schultz.
